10 years ago crime-drama City Of God became a critically acclaimed international hit. With it’s vivid depictions of life during the rise of Brazilian organized crime from the late 60s to the early 80s, the movie directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund took viewers on a journey through the stories of two peers – one who grows up to become a photojournalist and the other a drug dealer.
10 years later Cavi Borges and Luciano Vidigal have made a documentary that shows the real-life fates of the characters from the original film. Since many of them were brought in off the streets of Rio, the movie undoubtedly changed their lives as well as the shape of Brazilian cinema and the way Brazilian culture is depicted throughout the world. The documentary will be release at the end of 2012. Check the extended “trailer” below.
