Mark Ronson: How sampling transformed music

English musician, DJ, Singer and music producer Mark Ronson gave an intriguing TED Talk on “The Exhilarating Creativity of Remixing”. In the talk the DJ sampled 15 TED Talks and it’s opening theme music into an amazing audio-visual mix, and trace the evolution of Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick’s 1984 hit “La Di Da Di”. The legendary 80s Hip Hop track is the fifth-most sampled track of all time and has appeared in 547 known samples to date, including Notorious B.I.G.‘s “Hypnotize” to Miley Cyrus“We Like To Party”. Sampling isn’t about ‘hijacking nostalgia wholesale. It’s about inserting yourself into the narrative of a song while also pushing that story forward.
