ATL: Windows to Nowhere [Art Exhibition] 2.14.14

Creating art is just a nature instinct I have. It’s as natural as breathing to me. Art is like a window into my mind and imagination. My inspiration comes from crossing paths with other human beings, sharing stories and learning each other’s history. My goal in making art is to share my story and present it to the world, to leave behind a legacy, to make my children proud of me. For this series of paintings, I turned off the TV, no music, no one around me. Just me, my thoughts, and the sounds outside.

Fab + The Warhol Foundation: A rare collection of original posters from the iconic pop artist

Megastore Fab will begin a rare sale today at 4pm EST to deliver a collection of original Andy Warhol posters to the masses. Purchased directly from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the collection of 55 posters spans the 60s, 70s and 80s and includes signed and unsigned exhibition bills, movie posters, fashion promos and some more recognizable prints.

All 55 posters have been hand selected by Fab founder Bradford Shellhammer. For more information on the Warhol sale, running 25 April through 9 May with prices ranging from $160 to $3,900, visit

André Leon Talley Talks About “The Little Black Dress Exhibition”

André Leon Talley, Contributing Editor at Vogue, has curated “Little Black Dress,” a new exhibition at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia. Little Black Dress features 80 iconic and contemporary interpretations of the black dress including a 1907 Mariano Fortuny pleated silk dress, Whoopi Goldberg’s 2010 Chado Ralph Rucci caftan dress that she wore to the White House State Dinner, and a duplicate of the Tom Ford column dress and cape worn by Gwyneth Paltrow to the 84th Academy Awards. He includes the Commes des Garcons man’s shirtdress worn by Marc Jacobs and a duplicate of the Stella McCartney dress worn by Rihanna to the ball.

NYC: Art Take Time Square contest

This coming Monday evening, ?uestlove will announce the winners of our Okayplayer x Artists Wanted “Art Takes Times Square” contest in Times Square. Tens of thousands of artists have participated in Art Takes Times Square and the winning visual will be displayed on the screens of Times Square, giving them potential audience of over 200,000 people. Over a million viewers from around the world voted on their favorites, with one Grand Prize Award winner receiving a $10,000 grant, in addition to this show of a lifetime. Chashama and Artists Wanted will present the work of thousands of other participating artists on two mobile screens within a celebration featuring brass bands, performers and, of course, hosted by ?uestlove of The Roots.
