Happy Mentality // Pharrell x Fela Kuti

dj100proof remixed Pharrell‘s massive hit “Happy” with Fela Kuti’s “Colonial Mentality” from his 1977′s Opposite People/Sorrow Tears and Blood. The Seattle DJ dubbed it “Happy Mentality”.

I thought the shuffle tempo, driving bass lines and horns of Fela Kuti could provide a nice backdrop, so I chopped up his classic.

The band The White Mandingos consists of Darryl Jenifer on bass, music journalist and founder of Ego Trip Sacha Jenkins on guitar, and veteran indie MC Murs providing most of the vocals. “Warn A Brotha” chronicles the ups and downs faced by fictional emcee Tyrone White, frontman of the White Mandingos, who is played by Murs.
